The use of clay for therapeutic purposes is called Pelotherapy. Our clay is sourced from a remote region of Victoria Australia where deep basins of organic bio-mass have formed over thousands of years creating a nutritive mineral rich clay. This clay has numerous therapeutic effects and can be used in a variety of applications including body masks, wraps, soaks, poultices and of course, just for slipping around with, getting muddy and enjoying some Genuine dirty fun! When activated with moisture, clay has a unique drawing capacity which provides detoxifying benefits. Covering the body in clay will help improve blood supply and nutrition, in turn, increased circulation will improve the appearance of the skin, making it smooth soft and refined to touch. The aluminium found in clay is quite different from the toxic inorganic substance used in commercial deodorants and so isn’t associated with the same risks. The basis for clay’s therapeutic properties include · Adsorption – This is the capacity of clay to draw compounds to the outside of the molecule and hold them there. The negatively charged ions in the clay attract the positively charged ions in pollutants, an effect similar to a magnet. This property allows clay to bind to toxic substances and micro-organisms. · Absorption – this is the ability of clay to draw compounds inside of the molecular structure of the clay.
